clayGEEK Artist of the Day...July 10, 2017...C.A. TRAEN

C.A. TRAEN~
OOoooooo! I love the color, texture created by the stamping and the exacting detail of the human form created in this work.  Luscious!

Cat is recently from Memphis via Las Vegas...via North Dakota, near Fargo.
She specializes in sculpting the human form, though not in the same context as you and I might do it.  There is a bit of surrealism in how she treats some of her subject matter...pushing, pulling, fighting.

Until recently she taught Ceramics at Rancho High School in Las Vegas, where she created a program unlike any high school program I ever saw.  Her 'Elites' are students in their 3rd or 4th year of ceramics instruction at Rancho.  They are taken through a program of instruction on becoming professional artists...taking photos, creating portfolios, promoting themselves through marketing, sales and exhibition events...plus presenting at NCECA! I had the honor of presenting to her students in 2015.   She ran a truly amazing program.  She is now in Memphis, Tennessee and I hope she finds a school to continue her work.
I am just featuring her sculptural work today.  She is a talented maker of functional ceramics as well!
I love her philosophy: "Life is about finding and sharing joy in all experiences and seeking adventure"...AND...I KNOW SHE HAS!

I know this has to be Cat!
